greetings from a newcomer

Hi everyone!

I purchased a BrailleNote a couple of weeks ago and was greeted by Greg Nowak on PDI's bn list today, who very kindly invited me to have a look at the Freesoft project.  So I thought I'd just send a brief introductory message to the list.

I'm not a programmer by trade, rather I've taught myself things over the years in a learn-z-you-go fashion, so my knowledge of programming is fairly patchy.  I've been a Linux fan however for a long time, largely out of philosophical reasons and since I like the feeling of doing an unlimited number of things with a machine, not just those the manufacturers intend.  That's basically why I'm here: because, good as the bn is as a machine, I hate the view that it should stay a closed appliance that you send away to get things done to it.  I've had mine for about two weeks and I can count the things I haven't done with it on one hand!

Thanks very much for listening, and I certainly hope to be of some use in the project as time goes on.
